Love and Faith

Janice Keck

How it appeals to us that God was born a human baby,
Pure and sweet and helpless as we too enter the world.
How easy it is to love this innocent child,
With no thought that as adults our need for comfort
And love will bring us to dissension,
The loss of good friends as we disagree about God's word.
In the course of time, as the baby's story has been told, countries
Have gone to war, and families have killed their own
In the name of the tiny baby who was born
To bring peace into the world.
